A jury found a cruise line was not negligent in the medical care it provided to a crewman who claimed doctors performed an unnecessary lumbar discectomy and fusion surgery.

Seeram Kaisram, then 40, allegedly injured his spine pulling a loaded luggage cart with a broken wheel aboard Royal Caribbean’s Enchantment of the Seas. Plaintiffs counsel claimed that if surgery was needed, a less invasive procedure should have been used, based on the paucity of findings on diagnostic films.
