Back in the old days before upscale bistros sprang up all over downtown Miami, there was just the Royal Palm in the Burdines department store.

For 50 years, the eatery on the third floor of the store — first Burdines, later Macy’s — was THE place for downtown Miami lawyers, judges and business types to lunch thanks to its fast service, proximity to federal and state courthouses, and decently priced lunch buffet. Some of Miami’s oldest law firms like Podhurst Orseck and Angones, McClure & Garcia liked the joint so much they had reserved tables.
