The Florida Supreme Court set off a firestorm of protests by ordering eight-year term limits for chief district and circuit judges and taking on more powers with rules that muffle judicial conferences.
The rules prohibit judicial conferences from advocating their members’ views to lawmakers and give the Supreme Court new powers to remove chief judges without input from the judges they govern.
