A Los Angeles schoolteacher who was sexually assaulted during a vacation trip to Mexico hopes to convince the Florida Supreme Court she has a right to have her case heard in a Miami court.

Miami-Dade Circuit Judge Gerald Hubbert ruled and the Third District Court of Appeal agreed that Shahla Rabie Cortez could not bring her case in Florida. Both courts sided with Palace Resorts, a Miami-based resort marketing and management company that operates 11 properties in Mexico, on the company’s dismissal motion.
