A federal judge has ruled against Canadian insurance companies that have vacationing “snowbirds” as policyholders, finding Florida hospitals can press their claims that patient bills were not paid in full.

Delray Medical Center Inc. and three other hospitals affiliated with Dallas-based Tenet Healthcare Corp. filed a lawsuit in December in West Palm Beach federal court against three Canadian travel insurers, claiming they have been applying unjustified discounts to hospital bills.
