Los Angeles-based Canyon-Johnson Urban Funds, known for its partner Earvin “Magic” Johnson, plans to transform a dormant golf course into a Wal-Mart-anchored retail center in Miami’s Fontainebleau area.

Construction of the 235,000-square-foot neighborhood shopping center, called Fontainebleau Park Plaza, is scheduled to start later this year.
