A jury awarded $21,980 to a man who claimed he was falsely arrested by a Palm Beach County sheriff’s deputy for sexual assault that allegedly occurred inside an after-hours bar in Delray Beach.

The allegation was that James Kwon, then 47, placed his hand up a woman’s dress and penetrated her. Kwon’s counsel claimed the arrest occurred less than seven minutes after the deputy first spoke to the woman and before her sworn statement was obtained. Counsel claimed the arrest was made after the deputy interviewed only the complainant and no one else on the scene.
