With eyes on greater flexibility to enhance Oakwood Plaza, the owner of the sprawling Hollywood retail center is asking city commissioners to take over zoning and land-use control of the center from the state.

Oakwood Plaza L.P., which is managed by New York-based Kimco Realty Corp., is requesting today the commission approve an ordinance rescinding the 165-acre site’s 20-year-old Development of Regional Impact (or DRI) classification, which gives the state regulatory control over Oakwood’s development. The company’s application says making Oakwood Plaza subject to the city’s zoning and land-use regulations would help it adjust to market demands.
