In a split decision Wednesday, the Fourth District Court of Appeal asked the state Supreme Court to say whether judges can be Facebook friends with prosecutors appearing before them.

A three-judge panel refused an attorney general’s office request to rehear the case of Florida v. Pierre Domville. The panel last September ordered the recusal of Broward Circuit Judge Andrew Siegel, but it was willing to ask the Supreme Court for its opinion as a certified “question of great public importance.”
