A lingering battle over insurance money for the notorious Joe Cool fishing charter boat ended Wednesday when an appellate panel ruled the grandfather of the boat’s hijacked and murdered captain is owed nothing.
Joe Harry Branam Sr. sued his late grandson, Jake Branam, six weeks after he, his wife and two crew members were killed in 2007. The objective of filing the complaint was to establish and foreclose on an equitable lien on the 47-foot boat. Jake Branam’s uncle Jeff intervened as an additional lien claimant.
