A woman who claimed she developed temporomandibular joint dysfunction after the removal of a tooth recovered $489,700.

Cheryl McDaniel, then 32, went to dentist Steven Baxter in Orlando for an extraction of her lower left third molar wisdom tooth. Two weeks later she complained of pain, swelling and an inability to fully open her mouth, and said Baxter told her nothing was wrong. Two weeks later, she claimed she couldn’t open her mouth at all. She went to an emergency room, where a scan showed a jaw fracture.
