In an apparent deal that will shield him from charges connected with Scott Rothstein’s $1.2 billion Ponzi scheme, suspended attorney Russell Adler was charged Friday with illegally funneling campaign donations to U.S. Sen. John McCain’s presidential campaign, as well as former Florida Gov. Charlie Crist.

Adler was not charged with facilitating former attorney Rothstein’s Ponzi scheme run out of their Fort Lauderdale law firm, Rothstein Rosenfeldt Adler.
