A jury decided Macy’s employees at a North Miami mall were not liable for a woman’s death in an accident involving two suspected shoplifters in a getaway vehicle.
Emily Anderson, 40, was driving at 179th Street and 15th Avenue in North Miami when her vehicle was struck by a Chrysler 300 driven by Exzavier Robinson, who ran a stop sign. Aventura police pursued the suspects after they fled the store, causing Robinson to speed and cause the crash three miles away, the estate’s counsel claimed. Counsel claimed that had the pursuit been halted sooner, the accident wouldn’t have occurred.
