The Miami-Dade County Commission will be asked next week to take the first step in asking voters to approve the construction of a new courthouse for civil cases in downtown Miami at an estimated cost of $550 million.
In the works for a year, the plan would to replace the rundown 89-year-old Dade County Courthouse with a tower on a parking lot owned by the All Aboard Florida passenger rail developers west of the Wilkie D. Ferguson Jr. U.S. Courthouse. A bond issue would be required to finance the project.
