Two deaths and systemic abuse of the mentally ill at the Dade Correctional Institution has led to a demand in federal court for an injunction against the correctional officers involved.

Disability Rights Florida Inc., a federally mandated protection and advocacy agency for the state’s mentally ill, accuses Department of Corrections Secretary Michael Crews; Wexford Health Sources Inc., the company contracted to provide staffing; and the Florida Department of Corrections of knowing about the physical torture and verbal abuse occurring at the Dade Correctional Institution, and doing nothing about it.
