The owner of a Miami janitorial service was arrested Thursday for allegedly cheating on his workers’ compensation insurance under cleaning contracts for Miami-Dade County government buildings.

Pedro M. Diaz, the owner and president of Best Janitorial & Supplies Inc., was accused of underreporting his payroll to avoid paying $34,000 in workers’ compensation insurance plus $19,000 in administrative fees he would have owed his payroll processing contractor. In addition, many of Best’s payroll checks bounced.
