Her grandfather’s tales of Cuban courtrooms and the importance of the law sparked Miami-Dade County Court Judge Samantha Ruiz-Cohen’s desire to be an attorney when she was still a child.
From then on she was driven, and unwavering—even if it meant working six days a week at her parents’ bridal shop while she went to college, or working 50 hours a week in an unpaid internship at the U.S. attorney’s office.
