Perhaps one of the most widespread breaches in recent times was that affecting Target Corp. in December 2013 when it announced a breach affecting 40 million credit and debit card accounts. This number was increased to 70 million in January when Target announced theft of additional information, which included names, mailing addresses, phone numbers and email addresses.
