The emergence of Latin America-based multinationals—known as multilatinas—has created a boom in legal work for U.S.-based law firms with a strong presence in the region. Energy, tax and labor reforms in countries such as Chile, Colombia and Mexico are helping fuel double-digit growth in legal fees for Chicago-based Baker & McKenzie.

Brazil attorney Claudia Prado, the firm’s regional chairwoman, talked with the Daily Business Review about the firm’s growth strategy in the region. Prado, also a member of the firm’s global executive committee, has made airports and airplanes her office as she spends most of her time visiting the firm’s 15 offices in Latin America and attending meetings across the globe.
