U.S. District Judge Kenneth Marra in West Palm Beach stopped short of delivering a fatal blow to a group of computer software and tech support companies the Federal Trade Commission tried to shut down.
While recognizing a practice of misleading consumers into purchasing unnecessary software programs to combat alleged personal computer viruses and malware, Marra stated in a Dec. 23 order there was a likelihood the deception would not continue.
