Details: Brown, then a 42-year-old Hollywood resident, was driving southbound on 22nd Street in Hollywood on Aug. 6, 2009, when his vehicle was struck by Paul Pennicook, who ran a red light at the Garfield Street intersection.

Brown went to the emergency room the following day complaining of neck pain and underwent two surgeries at the University of Miami: a laminoplasty and a disc fusion. A longshoreman, Brown missed 5½ months of work and switched to a supervisory role paying $15 an hour less than what he was previously earning.
