The families of 17 U.S. Navy sailors killed in the 2000 bombing of the USS Cole won $48 million in damages against the government of Sudan.

U.S. District Judge Robert G. Doumar in Norfolk, Virginia, issued an order Friday awarding $14 million in punitive damages and $34 million in damages for emotional pain and suffering to 61 of the 63 plaintiffs. He promised an individual breakdown later.
