On June 16, Gov. Rick Scott signed into law House Bill 87, which made substantive changes to the pre-suit requirements to construction defect lawsuits under Chapter 558 of the Florida Statutes. The changes will take effect Oct. 1.

The overall purpose of Chapter 558, which was originally enacted by the Legislature in 2003, is to provide a mandatory pre-suit method of resolving construction defect claims without immediately resorting to litigation.
