A notable South Florida architect is proposing the tallest residential building in Miami on a parking lot east of the Claude Pepper Federal Building.

But first, he would need approval from the Federal Aviation Administration and permission from the city to disregard a significant section of the zoning code. The FAA recommended chopping nearly two-thirds off the 866-foot Liquid Lofts proposal, suggesting a height of 251 feet.
