South Florida’s five black bar groups have banded together to form a judicial diversity initiative focused on increasing the number of black federal and state judges in Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties.
Of the 123 judges on Miami-Dade’s circuit and county court benches, only 8 percent are black compared with 19 percent of the general population, and none serve at the circuit level.
