While headlines focus on how much cash investors are willing to pay for retail properties in Miami’s Design District, the developer of the megaproject is betting a different kind of green will make the open-air mall stand out.
Over 300 trees planted along eight blocks of sidewalks and pedestrian walkways will be vital to ensure the project’s success, according to Maria Ruiz, director of community relations at developer Dacra. The trees, including native gumbo limbo and Florida mahogany, are part of the reason the project is aiming for a LEED gold certification.
