The Southern District of Florida is facing a judicial emergency with federal judges being confirmed at the slowest rate since 1953, according to a new analysis by the Why Courts Matter coalition.

Congress has confirmed only five federal judges since January compared with 25 at the same point in the seventh year of former President George W. Bush’s term, according to the Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts website.
