On Jan. 21, 2013, a gunman burst into a 7-year-old’s daytime birthday party at her family’s apartment in the city of Cocoa, near Cape Canaveral, killing the little girl’s mother, Lydia Bradford. The child’s grandmother, Equaller Bradford, was also targeted. She was shot at least 10 times, spent six months in the hospital, lost an eye and parts of her liver and spleen.
