Miami-Dade County Court Judge Lourdes Simon grew up wanting to be a teacher, even though she remembers crying every day in pre-kindergarten because she didn’t understand what was going on.

“I did not speak a lick of English,” she said. “No one spoke a word of Spanish in this place called Belle Glade. So I went to school, and I would cry every day because I couldn’t communicate.”
