A state law setting residency requirements for write-in county commission candidates is unconstitutional, the Florida Supreme Court ruled Thursday.

Broward Circuit Judge Sandra Perlman disqualified Tyron Francois as a 2014 write-in candidate for the Broward County Commission, finding he didn’t live in the district as required by Florida law. Francois challenged the law’s constitutionality and won in the Fourth District Court of Appeal.
