Commercial and multifamily construction activity in Miami-Dade and Broward counties kicked back in 2015, dropping 8 percent year over year.

Construction starts in both booming sectors totaled $6.3 billion last year from $6.85 billion in 2014, according to the latest report by Dodge Data & Analytics. The figure kept the region in the top five U.S. metropolitan areas with the heftiest dollar amount in building ground breakings. The South Florida counties trailed only New York City, which nabbed the top spot with $34.9 billion worth of commercial and multifamily projects breaking ground in 2015.
