In March, the Florida Legislature voted unanimously to pass House Bill 549 to enhance Florida’s Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organization Act. The Florida attorney general supported the bill, stating that it would enhance enforcement actions to shut down fraudulent enterprises and would protect Florida consumers.
On March 24, Gov. Rick Scott signed the bill. The amended statute, which will take effect July 1, contains several substantive changes from the current version of Florida RICO.
