Controversial red light camera programs got a thumbs-up from a Florida appellate court Wednesday in a decision that diverges from another district’s earlier findings.
Ruling on a case related to the city of Aventura’s red light camera program, the Third District Court of Appeal found that Florida municipalities can legally allow private companies to review traffic images and choose which ones to forward to police. The court specified, however, that a police officer must review the record and not “merely acquiesce” to the company when deciding whether to issue a citation.
