When Barbara Black first tried to enter the real estate industry, she was offered a secretarial position.

Black obtained her real estate license when there were no women working in commercial real estate in the District of Columbia, where she hoped to launch a career focused on tenant representation. She knew landing a real estate job would be difficult after her first interview when the male hiring manager turned her down because of her gender.
