Andrew Smulian will resign in early 2018 as CEO and chairman of Akerman, a Miami-based firm that has outpaced the broader legal industry in headcount and revenue growth during Smulian’s eight-plus years at the helm.

Smulian’s chosen successor, confirmed in a partnership vote on Friday, is David Spector, a Miami partner who leads a successful national fraud recovery practice at the firm. Spector, who was already a practice group head, board member and executive committee member, was unanimously nominated for the position.
