A 50-year-old woman from the Dominican Republic is suing the Miami-Dade Corrections Department, claiming jail staff examined and photographed her genitals before misidentifying her as male and incarcerating her with more than 40 men.

Pichardo de Veloz filed a federal lawsuit Tuesday, claiming she was terrified, humiliated and threatened while jailed for more than 10 hours with men who “tormented, taunted and sexually harassed” her.
