Ford Motor Co. agreed to a nationwide class action settlement with up to 1 million Ford Explorer owners who claimed exhaust fumes leaked into their passenger compartments.

The proposed settlement, filed late Tuesday in Fort Lauderdale federal court, provides repairs for owners of 2011 to 2015 Explorers. Repairs are covered free for vehicles under warranty, and the settlement includes varying levels of reimbursement for customers whose warranty expired, depending on the severity of the problem.
