We had the privilege of working closely with Janet Reno in the late 1970s and 1980s during her tenure as the state attorney for Miami-Dade County. Her passing is a great personal loss as well as to our county and country as a whole.

Janet presided over the criminal justice system in Miami-Dade County at a time when crime was compared to the Wild West or Prohibition-era Chicago and the like. The tension and terror in our community was palpable and real. It seemed that every day presented a new challenge or major community crisis. Yet the consistent calm in the perpetual storm was Janet, who methodically and with the utmost of integrity led our office and community with masterful skills, honor and grace.
