When Kimarie Stratos became general counsel at Memorial Healthcare System in 2010, she was a veteran health care lawyer.

Still she found a new challenge: Massaging the culture to maximize efficiencies and minimize the costs of outside counsel. She had to instill confidence in her department’s half-dozen lawyers to collaborate with external specialists, acclimate them to stringent expense guidelines, and discourage outside lawyers and hospital executives from dealing directly with each other.
