Nearly 30 South Florida law professors have signed a letter opposing the nomination of Sen. Jeff Sessions, R-Alabama, as U.S. attorney general, questioning his record on racial issues.
The letter sent Tuesday to the leaders of the Senate Judiciary Committee includes signatures from more than 1,200 law professors in 49 states. It lists concerns about Sessions’ decision as U.S. attorney for the Southern District of Alabama to prosecute civil rights activists on voter fraud charges, his support for a wall on the U.S.-Mexico border and his “robust support for regressive drug policies that have fueled mass incarceration.”
