To the editors:

Florida House Speaker Richard Corcoran has renewed his call to amend Florida’s Constitution to limit the service of appellate judges and Florida Supreme Court justices to 12 years. A similar joint resolution died in committee in the last legislative sessions of the Florida House and Senate (HJR197/SJR322). Because our system of judicial selection and retention must be insulated from electoral politics, the Dade County Defense Bar Association opposes term limits for any trial or appellate state court judge.
