DLA Piper announced Monday that George Karavetsos, who until Friday was the director of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s Office of Criminal Investigations, has joined the firm’s litigation practice as a partner.

Karavetsos, who will work out of the firm’s Miami office, will focus on pharmaceutical, medical device, food, dietary supplement, tobacco and health care matters, advising the firm’s broad array of clients in these sectors, the firm said. Loren Brown, DLA Piper’s co-chairman of global and U.S. litigation, said in a statement that Karavetsos brings with him a “unique combination of white collar and FDA regulatory experience.”
