Honda won a small victory against plaintiffs lawyers trying to prove the automaker knew about and hid an air bag defect that led to the largest auto recall in U.S. history.

The automaker should not have to turn over its now-terminated joint defense agreement with air bag manufacturer Takata Corp., according to a recommendation issued Tuesday by the special master in Miami-based multidistrict litigation against Takata, Honda and other carmakers.
