A coalition of Holocaust survivor groups from South Florida is objecting to a proposed $1.25 billion settlement of a class action lawsuit against Swiss banks accused of harboring billions in assets that were stolen by the Nazis from European Jews before and during World War II.
In court papers filed this week in U.S. District Court in Brooklyn, N.Y., the 15 groups, which have a total of 10,000 members, contend the deal is inadequate because it releases from the suit a number of Swiss insurance companies that operated in Nazi Germany during the war.
