An appellate court has ruled that plaintiffs in a federal class action suit who claim that a West Palm Beach, Fla., bank illegally acquired their driver’s license data from the state do not have to prove actual damages to collect.

The 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruling last month is likely to help plaintiffs in a number of suits brought under the federal Drivers Privacy Protection Act, including those in a large class action in U.S. District Court in Miami that may affect 15 million people.
