DeKalb County Superior Court Judge Asha Jackson was just 36 when Gov. Nathan Deal appointed her in 2012 to fill the seat vacated by veteran Judge Michael Hancock.

The new role came with a steep learning curve, Jackson said, but she found on the way a reinforced belief in the power and potential of alternative sentencing programs in the form of accountability courts.
