After a two-week trial, an Alabama jury found for the defense in a medical malpractice case involving a baby who was left brain-damaged during a problem birth 11 years ago.

During their closing statement, the plaintiffs had asked for $50 million on behalf of the child, said Hall Booth Smith partner John Hall, who represented a Jasper, Alabama, hospital and three nurses present during the birth. A co-defendant, the doctor who delivered the baby, was also cleared of liability.
