Plaintiffs lawyer and state representative Stacey Godfrey Evans has given her alma mater, the University of Georgia School of Law, $500,000 to fund a scholarship for law students who are first-generation college graduates.

The first Evans Scholar will be named this fall, according to an announcement from UGA Law.

“With this gift, I hope to take some of the financial stress off of the shoulders of bright and accomplished students who are shooting beyond expectations and working to obtain their law degrees. And more than the dollars, I hope the scholarship serves as a signal to students breaking their family molds that they are valued and not only wanted, but sought after, at Georgia Law,” said Evans, herself a first-generation college graduate, in the announcement.
