A guest lecturer was quizzing Georgia State University law students Wednesday—but instead of demanding their analysis of a case, he wanted to know about their … feelings.

Scott Rogers of the University of Miami School of Law cajoled the students into closing their eyes and paying attention to their breath—an unusual occurrence for cranked-up law students.

Rogers' lunchtime talk kicked off a series of training sessions on mindfulness for Georgia State law students. Although mindfulness can be defined in different ways, Rogers told the students and faculty that the practice involves purposefully paying attention to what's happening in the present moment.
