The University of Georgia School of Law is starting a new jurist-in-residence program, inviting federal judges to spend a week on campus teaching an intensive mini-course.

The program bringing Article III judges to Athens is made possible by a gift from a 2003 alumnus, Allen Yee, honoring Judge B. Avant Edenfield, the longtime federal judge for the Southern District of Georgia who died in May.

The first B. Avant Edenfield Jurist in Residence will be Judge Lisa Godbey Wood, a 1990 alumna of the law school who sits on the Southern District of Georgia bench. Her mini-course topic will be sentencing.
